2012 Nail trends from the Red Carpet to the Runway
February 15th, 2012 by BiancaWith statement nails all the rage, make sure you’re sporting the latest trends right down to your fingertips.
While not normally a major focus for celebrities and fashion designers, innovative nail trends have been infiltrating just about everywhere from Fall Fashion Week to the Grammys.
Here’s the lowdown on some of the latest looks:

The Louboutin
Adele rocked the two-tone nail trend on the red carpet at the Grammys earlier this week, showing that you needn’t pull out Lady Gaga-esque stops to garner some fashion induced gasps. Manicurist Mike Pocock recreated the Louboutin trademark by lining the flip side of Adele’s silver-sequined nails with a bold red polish.
Make the Louboutin look suitable for day with a classic nail shade like navy, beige or nude. Finish up with a matt fiery red underneath.
The Polka-Dot
Kate Spade’s Fall 2012 runway was filled with the usual whimsy, including some perfectly imperfect polka-dot nails! Deborah Lippmann stuck to solid black almond-shaped nails with cream dots, a complete contrast to the candy-colored Kate Spade garments on the models.
With the dots unique in size and arrangement, you won’t need a perfectly steady hand, making this look is a cinch to recreate at home!
The Vamp
With the continuing obsession with vampires and the release of The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, it’s no wonder models at Wes Gordon, Malandrino and Correll Correll were spotted with dark, almost-black, high gloss nails on the Fall 2012 runways. The trick with this trend is to make sure your dark hues are super high gloss, almost lacquered.
This look a touch too goth for you? Follow the trend’s close cousin with a nude and black pairing ala L.A.M.B and Joy Cioci. Reverse French tips and half-moons in particular are popular styles for the color combo.
The Midas
Perhaps the biggest newsmaker in nail trends lately is the 24 karat gold manicure Rihanna sported at the 2012 Grammys. At a whopping $5000 a bottle, Amor 24 nail polish is made by Red Carpet Manicure and is the ultimate luxury accessory. And as if their swag bags couldn’t get any better, each celebrity at the 2012 Grammys was treated to a bottle of their very own, male and female!
While very few of us can shell out a couple of grand for some polish, you can recreate this luxe look with OPI’s As Good As Gold Collection.
