An ode to Chanel’s Little Black Jacket

June 11th, 2012 by Bianca

This new exhibition shot by Karl Lagerfeld comes to New York’s Soho.

An ode to Chanel’s Little Black Jacket

Brainchild of Lagerfeld and former Vogue France editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld, The Little Black Jacket exhibition, photographed by Lagerfeld, features more than 100 black-and-white photographs of figures including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kanye West, Vanessa Paradis and Tilda Swinton. Each wear a differently-styled Chanel jacket made specifically for the exhibition.

The purpose of the exhibition illustrates the versatility of Chanel’s classic tweed jacket, a fashionable staple ever since Coco Chanel first created it in 1954.

While the exhibition only runs until June 15 at 18 Wooster Street before moving to Taipei, the photos will also be made into a book titled “The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited.” Published by Steidl, the book will be priced at $98 and will be launched on August 15th. If you’re a fan of the brand it’s a must-have for your coffee table.

If you can’t make the exhibition and find the book price a tad steep, I suggest you wet your Chanel appetite with this video of the making of a jacket in Chanel’s ateliers as well as the behind the scenes shots here.

And while we’re discussing all things Chanel, did you hear Karl Lagerfeld is launching his own Makeup line? The line of 17 new products by Chanel’s iconic designer will be launched in November 2012. Seems Karl fever continues!
