How to Dress for a Company Picnic
March 17th, 2010 by Kori EllisThere’s nothing like forced socialization to put a big question mark over your wardrobe closet. And by this, we mean the always-popular company panic.
You want to be casual – what else would you wear in the grass playing kickball? But you also don’t want to be sloppy.
A pair of Bermuda shorts work, if you feel like you may actually play sports. If you are more of a sit and sip type, a sundress is more the way to go. No matter what you do, stay neat and non-slutty – chances are anything else would not work in the office dynamic!
As for shoes, we all love flip-flops, but those are sometimes too casual! Consider ballerina flats or wedges. You can always keep a pair of sneakers in your car in case you want to actually play ball.
Carry a straw or canvas tote rather than your leather shoulder bag. Remember, you are going to be outdoors and you’ll need a sturdy, durable option.
For jewelry, keep things simple. A pair of small hoop earrings and a cute watch or colorful bracelet is all you need.
Important note: While this is a casual occasion, you are still going to be among your coworkers – and possibly your superiors – always look competent and do nothing to embarrass yourself! It’s okay to have a cocktail, but limit yourself to one or two. Many reputations (and jobs) have been ruined at company parties.
