Trend Alert: Polka Dot Prints
Circle circle dot dot.
Graphic prints are back for fall, and the most striking of them all are dots — big ones, specifically, in bold contrasting colours. Unlike the delicate retro polka-dots of seasons past, the new dots are clean, dramatic, and paired with ultra-modern shapes: think slouchy sweaters (Tom Scott), origami-pleated day dresses (Marni), or boxy shopping totes (Marimekko). The result? Graphic charm that adds the perfect punch to any city outfit, work or play.
Think huge circles are overwhelming? Try adding them below the hemline: don a pair of sphere-infested shoes with jeans (like the Pierre Hardy sandals, below) or pair a solid-hued work outfit with dotted tights. Linked-circle earrings (see: Van der Straeten) add sophistication to almost any ensemble. The only “don’t”? Avoid combining bold circle pieces with too many other busy prints, lest you look, well, dotty.
