Trend Alert: Wrapped Leather Bracelets

September 6th, 2010 by shiny

Wrapped, corded, beaded or raw-edged – a wrapped leather bracelet is the ultimate in low-key jewelry cool.

If 2009 was all about the cocktail ring, 2010 was the year of the bracelet – cuffs, bangles, and even bracelet-rings all made an appearance on celebrities, street-style trend-setters, and in key retail collections. With so many different bracelets in the spotlight, it’s no surprise that one of the most talked-about trends of the summer was the woven leather bracelet. Drawing on the ever-strong popularity of CC Skye’s wrapped leather pieces (often seen on Miley Cyrus), Chan Luu produced a series of for Banana Republic that set the blogosphere abuzz.

With its casual, natural feel, the wrapped leather bracelet is a shoe-in for summer accessorizing – but, done well, the look can work for cold-weather seasons as well. Layer leather bracelets in darker or neutral hues for impact and pair with outfits in other natural fibers, like a bulky, chunky-knit sweater. Avoid beads and rocker-chick looks lest you resemble Miley Cyrus.

Studs, suede, and rough-edged leather make for a more substantial, pricier-looking piece that works well with slouchy fall separates:

Gorjana Graham Leather Studded Triple Wrap Bracelet, $48, Revolve Clothing

For a variation, try a rope bracelet or a combo rope/leather one. Urban Outfitters makes a few that save on the hide and the price:
