Peridot Rings

Peridot is an ancient gemstone that has roots tracing back to Ancient Egypt, and can be found on ancient Egyptian jewellery. The stones came from a deposit on a small volcanic island in the Red Sea, and were not rediscovered until the 1900s. A now widely popular gemstone, peridot is a vivid olive green colour, with a slight tinge of yellow/gold (caused by traces of iron in the stone deposits). Unlike most gemstones, peridot is not a multi-coloured stone, and it does not change in the sun, or under artificial light. For that reason it's nicknamed “emerald of the evening,” as emeralds are known to shine in the daylight, while the peridots were dug up during the night, as the faint glimmer was usually seen under the moonlight. The intensity in the greenish colour of a peridot depends on the amount of iron present in the stone. While the stone itself isn't as hard as other gemstones, it's easy to look after with a little bit of care.

The green colour of a peridot signifies growth and prosperity in all of life's endeavors, and is related to making intelligent decisions regarding matters of the heart, telling the truth, and proving loyalty to another. Another significance to the peridot's colour belongs to Mother Nature. When the Earth is green, it's healthy; therefore, the peridot relates to a healthy, balanced Earth, and that starts with its healthy, balanced wearer. Similarly, a green Earth is giving, and so is the nature of a peridot as a birthstone, as its attributes are strongly associated with a giving, loving, and receiving nature, proving to be a perfect combination for a deserving recipient of this gemstone. The yellow/gold tinge to the stone signifies happiness, as it is reminiscent of the sun shining its warmth down on our hearts. The peridot is a modest stone for practical lovers who hold a relationship based on friendship and mental clarity. It makes for a wonderful birthstone to give not only to those who are born in the month of August, but as a gift to someone you regard in high esteem.
